I provide copyediting and proofreading services to authors of fiction and nonfiction.

Why should you have your work professionally copyedited and proofread?

The proofreading and editing process is collaborative,  and your voice and message will remain your own.

I will offer feedback through Track Changes, comments, and a stylesheet explaining changes and offering suggestions respectfully.

I will read your content slowly and catch typos and other issues you may have missed while writing your manuscript or web content.

I will offer you peace of mind, knowing errors and other issues have been addressed once you're ready to publish.

  • Repeated or missing words

  • Dialogue elements and punctuation

  • Formatting issues with font size and style

  • Consistency of layout

HOW IT WORKS

Estimate

Send me your document via email, and I will provide you with a detailed estimate based on its complexity, page count, and your preferred deadline.

Make a Plan

Should you agree to my estimate, we will set a deadline and discuss any concerns or style questions you may have.

Get to Work

I will proofread and/or copyedit your document in Microsoft Word with Track Changes. Once I'm done, you will receive two versions of the document: one with all changes in red and another version with all changes accepted for easier reading. You will also receive a stylesheet.

Review

After you receive and review your edited document, I can read through your edits. I will then email an invoice. I accept payments through Venmo, PayPal, and check.

ABOUT ME

I have dedicated over 13 years to proofreading and copyediting. I learned how to proofread while working as a medical transcriptionist. Then, I transcribed video interviews for a company that produces curricula and assistive technology devices for special education. I transitioned into proofreading complex curricula, user guides, and grants, which eventually led me to copyediting adapted literature for K–12 students. Over the years, I have completed proofreading courses and continue investing in editing courses while staying current with trends in the proofreading, editing, and writing world.

I have also spent the last 11 years working as the go-to copyeditor for an independent book publisher. Repeat authors have requested my services, and I have worked on book series. I am flexible and enjoy working with authors to meet their expectations. I delight in being a vital part of the publishing process.

I am married to my wonderful husband, Craig, and am a mom to four children, ages 15 to 22. When I’m not in the office or spending time with family and friends, I can be found outside hiking, running, or kayaking down the Sugar River.

About

T

I highly recommend Ms. Shannon Booth’s editing services! The plot of my murder mystery No Land of Mine contains a quick-paced romance, that, after several read-throughs, felt stilted and unnatural. After agreeing to take on my project, in no time at all, Ms. Booth was able to smooth the bumps in the characters’ relationship by making slight changes in the dialog and character interaction. Inconsistency with my pacing was also something I struggled to perfect. With Shannon’s extensive knowledge of grammar, such as the subtle rearrangement of participles and infinitives, my story transformed into an enjoyable, fluent reading experience. Shannon Booth’s insight, professionalism, and expertise, brought my book to life!

Dan Pfaff, author of No Land of Mine

Shannon has edited the entire Driftless Mystery Series. I couldn’t be happier with her eagle-eye editing and her thoughtful proofreading of the story line and plot. She always has the author’s message at the heart of all she does. When she finishes a manuscript. I know I’m putting my best foot forward to my readers.

Sue Berg, author of the Driftless Mystery Series

Shannon is wonderful to work with. Her eagle eye has helped create consistency across a series, and she delivers high quality feedback in a timely manner.

As someone who holds a PhD in English, who has been trained in rhetoric and who has taught writing for two decades, I am SUPER picky about who edits my work. That's why Shannon is my go-to person. Not only is she a professional who knows her craft, she doesn't erase my voice and message. She enhances it. She does her homework. And she brings back the highest-quality feedback. Working with her is ALWAYS a gift and a blessing. Her skills make our brand look so good. And I recommend her without any hesitation or reservations.

Sagashus Levingston, PhD

I would highly recommend Shannon for your proofreading needs. She was the consummate professional throughout the process, listened to my suggestions, even when they didn’t make grammatical sense, and produced a product that was refined, polished, and became a legitimate book from this musician pretending to be an author.

Turnaround time was nothing short of amazing. In fact, it took me far longer to okay her improvements than it did for her to repair my manuscript.

All in all, a delightful experience.
